I think about the only thing SNHU has going for it is the fact that it is a non-profit institution with a for-profit business model. However, I expect that advantage to begin to fade within the next few years as there seems to be a convergence between non-profit and for-profit higher education taking place in the United States. My bet is that, within 5 years, higher ed will look a lot like hospitals do today. Roughly 30 percent of all hospitals in the U.S. are for-profit, but patients cannot tell the difference.
I have been teaching for various online and traditional institutions for almost 15 years and, frankly, SNHU has been the worst experience I have ever had. Forget about academic freedom--instead you will be micromanaged and told how to teach regardless of your experience level and/or academic credentials. And much of the classroom expectations are designed more around satisfying administration than providing any real academic value to students. I'm in the process of teaching my last class...
Advice to Management
Stop the micromanaging and treat faculty like they are valuable contributors--folks you want to keep for the long-term. Otherwise, just expect to be constantly hiring "newbies" in what will amount to a revolving door for experienced faculty, in particular.
