I have been working at Spencer Stuart full-time (More than 10 years)
The business itself is interesting and the company has a great reputation, so I'm proud to work there. The people are passionate about the firm, but that is also the downside, because it is not the firm it used to be. Great environment esthetically. Most long-term employees, like myself, are still hopeful that it can be fixed and return to what it was.
The "heart" of the firm is almost gone. A lot of new leadership seem to have no respect for the culture and history of the firm. Change can be good, but not at the cost of what has made us successful. We are based on relationship firm - both internal and external - not mere transactions. Some of the leaders disregard this and trample over people to "get things done". It is very sad to see what was such a positive place to work become so depressing. People refer to the CEO as a bully but no one will stand up to him. Others come in and say "we did it this way at my old company so it will work here" but they don't understand our culture. It is becoming unrecognizable and is very sad.
Advice to Management
Listen to people, respect the history while moving ahead. You have some amazing, passionate people here who are talking about leaving. Don't just do a survey and then do nothing - fix it!!!
