Great customers that come into store! Customers that come in, for the most part, have an "active lifestyle", and are usually upbeat. The product that comes in the store is "top quality"! Unlike Big 5 or Sports Authority, which get "lower end" products, Sport Chalet carries "top name" and sometimes the "higer end" models that a lot are looking for (especially in Orange County)!!!
No Raise since started (over 4 years ago)! They make sure your review, is just "below good", so corporate sees it, and shows "no raise needed".. There is NO training. They throw you in, and you learn from your co-workers. If you get a "talking to by management" for not doing something right, and you explain, you "did not know", they think that is unexceptable"! Even if you have the training and skills in a certain department, you will not move up. No communication between managment! Sometimes one manager does not know what the other is doing. No reward to doing good things, i.e. getting customer comment cards, signing up customers for Action passes or Visas. But, for not "consistantly" do the above, they will be handing out "talking to's" Managment does not help much in store, expect Department Heads and staff do all the work, they are in office most of the time When District Managers or VP's come to the store, the Managers stress as soon as they are notified they are coming "for a visit", and stress the staff out to make sure everything is immactulate, and sometimes staying wayyyyyy past closing time to finish it!
Advice to Management
Hire Managers that maybe have "Management training"!! Maybe have like a "Sport Chalet U" and train them all the same way. Not like it is now. Everybody has different styles, and do things differently and no uniformaity! Teach them, to train their staff as start their new jobs. Speak to them with kindness, not being spiteful to them. People will work better for you.
