I worked at Starfish Retention Solutions full-time (More than a year)
Good product, and employees that believe in the mission. Small company culture, at least when it was a a separate company. Easy access to executives, and input from staff is usually welcomed. Devoted customer base and a brand that resonates with clients, competitors, and the industry.
They obviously were gearing up for acquisition by Hobsons or another company for some time. The CEO seemed to be distant at times, and their most recent product seemed to be as much "bait" for potential buyers or investors as it was an actual product. Now that Hobsons has taken over, much of the positive corporate culture is gone. Lots of good people who were entrepreneurial in spirit have left, and the new company still isn't embracing former Starfish employees as if they are part of the same company -- almost like we are second class citizens. The merger has also taken the primary focus off higher ed and has broadened the scope to K-12 market as well... which dilutes the message.
Advice to Management
Treat all employees equally -- and learn to value the Starfish product as a part of the Hobsons suite.
