The Campus Special is based in Atlanta, GA so a definite downside is not having an office. Working out of your car what a basic day looked like even in the heat of the summer. Organizing things in the car was difficult so I did a majority of it at home. There was a lot of work that was done outside of the normal 9:00-5:00 hours with paperwork, entering information into the database, and organizing for the next day. Those extra hours helped me reach my goals even faster even though it was extra work. There were multiple times I stayed with clients until almost 7pm or later just to get a sale. Despite not being paid hourly, those extra hour are what lead me to being successful in the internship. Also, interactions with clients were always a hit or miss- sometimes you would get a very nice owner and the sales would go perfectly. Other times, the owner would scream at you until you felt like crying. I found that this was the harsh reality of the internship and sales jobs in general as a career. You can never predict a person's opinion on advertising until you try and I found it easiest to think "there's nothing to lose" so I wouldn't feel like giving up. It was very easy to get down on myself from the types of situations I encountered but it was always important to keep my head up and press forward because it allowed me to overcome my struggles. Considering the internship was so hard, it has prepared me for any job with any situation similar to the ones I faced in the internship. It allowed me to get a glimpse of what a sales job actually entails and strengthened me for the real world interactions I will soon face!
Advice to Management
In some instances there could have been more organization in relaying messages and fixing client problems but overall management was very attentive and diligent with helping us with our interactions with clients.
