I worked at The Ryland Group full-time (More than 5 years)
A quality built home with great marketing programs. Ryland was always fair with our compensation packages which included medical, dental, eye glasses, 401K and stock options. They have a draw against commission and you are an employee, not just a 1099 contractor. All the builders are great and easy to work with, at least the ones I worked with. I never heard complaints from other Sales Counselors about any of the builders. The warranty department staff are great, friendly and professional and customers were always taken care of promptly most of the time.
The Atlanta architect does a great job designing medium to large homes but drops the ball when it comes to smaller starter home design. He just can't design a functional small footprint or floorplan. The upper management operates with an ego mentality and are not friendly or personable at all. They are difficult to reach out to as they sit on pedestals, Some of the support staff behave the same way. They are not always consistent with procedures and you just don't know what you'll get when you make a phone call to get a deal worked out, if you run into challenges during a sale.
Advice to Management
Be more approachable and collaborative with your team of sales people, they would enjoy their jobs more and probably be more productive, as in produce more sales!
