I have been working at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time (More than 3 years)

Good work/home life balance, good location. There are a lot of good, hard working people there. It is a clean factory and can serve you well as a first job or to get good experience for a couple years in any area.

Low pay, low level of support from management, too heavy on lean manufacturing, site management cares more about shipping product than anything else, SAP implementation was a flop, left holes that may never be filled. There seems to be a trend of people whose job is to make work for others and take credit when it's finished; it's alarming that the number of people doing this is growing but the number of people to do the work is diminishing. The ones who work and are reliable have work continually piled on them, making it nearly impossible to look good enough for a big raise or promotion. People leave and aren't replaced, new product is brought in and no additional resources are given, a lot is expected and not much is rewarded. Just a personal story, I was promoted to a department Administrator from within, my pay was structured on what I was making working in the factory and not what fair for the market, meaning they got me to do the job for significantly less than an external candidate with the same credentials. Since I was promoted 2 months before the annual raises, I was excluded from my raise that year, the next year I was given a whopping $.25 raise per hour, my manager reasoned that because I had such a big raise the previous year, I was fortunate to get a raise at all. The experience was really discouraging. The manufacturing facility was Forma Scientific before being purchased by Thermo Fisher, and Forma had a reputation of treating employees well, paying them well, and being a great place to work. Sadly, that is not the case now, and even more sadly, it's not unique to this company. The old Forma employees are topped out and haven't had a raise in years, new employees are doing work for $12/hour while they stand beside someone doing the same job who makes nearly $30/hr. This situation also leads to employees with ambition and drive to be discouraged by those who are trying to ride the last few years out before retirement. I found there are 3 groups of people who work at Thermo in Marietta. Those who are looking to leave, those who are looking to retire, and those who are too dumb to know any better. I haven't found anybody who doesn't fit in one of those categories. Having said that, there really are a lot of good people working for Thermo in Marietta, if you are new to the workforce in engineering, welding, assembly, refrigeration, put in a year or two, then leave and go get paid like an adult, because God knows you won't get that here.

    Advice to Management

Repair the reputation you once had in the area. Pay your workers well, promote competent people, managers could maybe say 'Thank you' sometimes.
