I have been working at TiVo full-time (More than 5 years)

technically well-grounded, innovating engineering teams work/life balance minimal politics (probably because, there's no big bonus money and no salary raises to fight among)... there's still some politics are various levels, but lease I've seen in Bay Area tech companies

pathetic salary raises, pretty much none... if you get 2% raise annually, you must be in someone's good books though technical leaders are good, there's no growth in career because number of people are locally reducing and off-site (Romania/India) are growing... makes sense economically, but if you're looking to grow in career... this is not the place to be

    Advice to Management

You top guys scheme to share profits among yourselves at executive level e.g. US $ 6 million bonus to CEO who's already earning $ 5 million salary + similar numbers of other execs. These execs don't deserve it, because your stock is plumetting for last 18 months, and these execs are dumping their stock in every legally allowed window. You think quarterly party (like summer party or halloween or diwali or christmas party) or nighly dinner is considered as treating employees right - it's probably okay for contractors, but not for those who made choice to invest their time into your Haxe technology switch. People who switched Haxe don't have marketable resume for past 2 years and their development throughput suffers due to lack of tools and one guy's tool chain choices. Yet, you don't appreciate those team's committment - but you'll reward a failing CEO 120% bonus in the order of millions. There is no surprise that people are leaving Haxe based teams because of tool chain and workflow problems, because they don't feel appreciated in reviews or rewards. Instead, give 5% raise to your employees across the board and you'll see happy folk walking around the campus putting more life into their work.
