I worked at UOP full-time (More than 3 years)
Excellent experience you won't likely get anywhere else. Given huge responsibilities relatively early in your career. Diverse, multicultural experiences. Global travel opportunities. No expenses while in Field Operating Services (FOS). Good environment for recent college hires, as they hire in large groups (10-30).
Due to high attrition, people who are unprepared or unmotivated get pushed to take on responsibility before they are ready. Very sink or swim. Very limited opportunities to use vacation due to demanding work environment while in FOS. Management out of touch with what motivates young engineers. Clear push to hire more engineers globally, even though customers pay for and expect "western expertise". Total compensation is low, and is justified with "no expenses". Company recently experienced ~100 layoffs in the last 6 months solely out of the US office. Exceptionally high turnover in FOS group
Advice to Management
Understand what it takes to motivate and keep young engineers. Adjust compensation packages to true market value.
