I have been working at Universal Music Group full-time (More than a year)

Great health care, work facilities are very nice. Tons of free music. Depending on department, flexible hours. No formal dress code.

Pay is terrible and non-existent promotions. Now where you work in this company is very vital to your experience. The Woodland Hills location is operated like a cold bank, the only saving grace is the lunch room/arcade combo. People are not very social, management is completely out of touch with the climate of "today's" music business. As a whole the company is completely out of touch with technology and are very behind. I've worked for some pretty big corporations and this is by far the slowest moving and least innovative. UMG is still trying to adapt an aging business model molded after physical product. In short it's a sinking ship with a lot of patches. Understand this about the music business, they'd rather keep a head than take a pay cut. Ambition is not praised it is restricted.

    Advice to Management

Hire more innovators not clerks. Let your ambitious employees show you what they can do instead of being intimidated by them. Most of management should be fired for how this company has been ran. You let your talented employes sway to the side and become complacent yet coddle incompetent workers just because you don't want to loose head. You ask us for ideas we give them to you, we even bring in new business opportunities but they are overlooked because it will not bring a bonus or an immediate profit. Listen to your people, also you should really have payed attention to what Rick Rubin said when he left this company; music has highs and lows stop trying to chase nickles by building more platforms that do nothing more than chase pocket change. INNOVATE!
