I have been working at University of Manchester full-time (More than 3 years)
A large amount of money is being invested in new buildings, everything not required. Most of the Older buildings in the North campus, is most of the time empty for some of the floors, even during the peak hours of lectures.
Bullied by my advisor, because she couldn't understand the problems in experimentation, she forced me into doing things in the lab that were irrelevant. I wasn't paid for my the hours spent, but was forced to be at the university, even without allowing taking leave. This was followed by constant threats and harassment. When a complaint was made, I was further bullied by her and her colleagues including the then director of undergraduate studies of the school of MACE(Mech. Aero and Civil Engg). An internal examination, after the complaint was made, was rigged in such a way that it became favourable for her, adding statements to the report I didnot make. It showed a violation of academic integrity by the senior members of the school. The examination was also delayed by 3 months from the date of planned, where I was not allowed to do research and was not given the exact date of the exam(the university policies states that such acts contribute to bullying), with an exception for a few days before the exam. The school nor the university did not take any action against this. An external examiner(from another university, with 30 years of experience), was bought in for the second examination, where, the examiner told that I was right about the experiments and my method was the only method to solve the problem. Even after that my advisor and her department didnot even apologize for their mistakes, nor any action was taken.
Advice to Management
Please ask atleast to comply with the university's rules of confidentiality, when a complaint is made. Also, to comply with the rule of zero tolerance to bullying. If my advisor and her colleagues were at anyother university they would have been fired.
