There is a very bad culture and low staff morale at the university due to terrible management and overall outlook. To summarise cons: - Incompetent senior management - Culture of blame - Unrealistic expectations and lack of support to fulfill projects - Terrible, unfit for purpose IT, equipment and resources - 'Institutionalised' staff - Huge workloads and poor pay to reflect this - Massively disorganised Overall there many areas that need to be improved. Departments work in silos and the systems are simply not there to let you do your job properly. There is also a chronic lack of investment in buildings and staff (with everything bought as cheap as possible and things falling apart around you).
Advice to Management
Need to think about treating your staff a little better rather than beating a stick at them all the time. Anyone with sense runs for the hills eventually!
