I worked at University of Wisconsin Oshkosh full-time

There are plenty of good people working in both the academic and administrative side of things who have managed to maintain their integrity and ethics through many years of poor leadership.

Inequities between as well as within colleges of the institution are stunning. Compensation, work loads, and teaching loads vary greatly, with no sound rationale to support the disparities. Reports of misogyny, verbal abuse, and discrimination in at least one of the colleges (not mine, thank goodness) have been known for years. The higher level administration will not address these issues and faculty and staff are unable to act out of fear of the almost certain repercussions. The previous chancellor spent the last ten years of his career trying to get a job somewhere else, avoiding taking any action that might negatively affect his job search. Not to judge the character of the new chancellor, but suffice to say he arrived lacking the administrative experience to understand the culture or do anything about it if he did. The previous administration and all its baggage has carried over essentially unchanged, unfortunately. As long as the hands-off and fear of bad publicity policies continue, the reputation of the institution will continue to erode.

    Advice to Management

Stop protecting your own and focus on becoming an academic institution of the highest quality possible. Serve the people of the state and the students who attend. Weed out poor leadership in the administration.
