I have been working at Value City Furniture full-time (Less than a year)
Opportunity for people oriented sales types. Commission structure is adequate enough for you to make 50K if you are good at what you do. They have a presence in the market and traffic in the stores. Their products are value oriented and well priced. The distribution is darn good and products get to the consumer quickly.
Store Managers either make the schedule or pass it on to an Assistant Manager without considering the effect on the sales staff. There are times that there are far too many reps on the floor (say, a Wednesday morning) and others that there are far too few. The benefit package needs to improve, it is barely adequate. "C'mon man"...this is important to the employees! Forget the Thanksgiving Day Hours. It is in your handbook that Thanksgiving is actually a paid holiday. No one wants to work on a family holiday, especially when your DSW Footwear Stores are closed. Get it together!
Advice to Management
Be leader in your respective markets. Restore autonomy to the Store Manager and make that person responsible for leading the market. It seems that you are constantly reacting to the competition and not making them react to you. Let the Managers target items that are popular in their market and advertise them. What works in Chicago does not necessarily work in Pennsylvania.
