Assistant store managers are the workhorse of the stores. You do everything and know everything and in the past carried out the store managers wishes. You are also in charge of all the floor employees whereas the store manager is in charge of the managers Now Walgreens is transitioning to "one brand" style where every store is laid out the same. In practice this doesn't always occur because of differing volume of customers and distribution issues. The point being asm's simply follow a "customer plan" and no longer have much merchandising freedom which has pros and cons. Asm's work mandatory 6 full days in December and starting the weekend following thanksgiving. You are expected to work 44 hours a week any other time of the year and are salary. You get two comp days off in January for the extra time on January.

Pay could be better considering how much money this company makes and how much is laid upon the shoulders of asm's. The schedule is terrible as there is no consistency. You'll work a mixture of 1st and 2nd shift, weekends and days. And it will never be the same. The holidays suck due to extra work load and hours. Benefits are ok. You get some decent choices between insurance providers and can participate in a profit sharing program.
