I worked at Winston Retail as a contractor (More than a year)
There aren't any pros to this company. I would not recommend anyone who ever asked me to work for this company.
Winston will first flat out lie to you during the hiring process in order for you to take less money. They will tell you what accounts you're going to have, and if you're a merchandise coordinator, promise you primarily the merchandise coordinator jobs and very little of their lower paying merchandising jobs, and then once you take the position it will all change. You won't get the jobs you were promised and instead they will give you the jobs at the lesser pay. Also, they call these positions contract positions but they walk a very fine line legally in doing so. Yes, you can make your own schedule to a certain point, but then if you need to change it you have to get permission, they can't legally do that for contractors. When I was with the company a lawsuit in California was brought against them. Their whole system of reporting is a joke, and people who have never walked into these stores, who in some instances have significant less experience than the person they're critiquing, will tell you what you did wrong and what you have to do instead. Which sometimes isn't possible. If for some reason you forgot a small piece of information on your report they won't pay you at all for the visit. I have done this type of work for many years, I only worked for Winston between full time real jobs, but I've never experienced a more poorly run company.
Advice to Management
Treat your employees with respect. And for upper management, realize you are walking a fine line with calling these contract positions, and either make them true contract posifions or make them hourly positions directly for the company.
