General Description:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior P25 Systems Technician to support the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of Project 25 (P25) Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems used for mission-critical communications. This role serves as a technical leader within the field organization, responsible for advanced troubleshooting, system performance, and mentoring junior staff. Position is available in our Richmond VA office. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in radio communications looking to take on greater technical ownership and leadership responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead the installation, configuration, and commissioning of P25 radio systems, including repeaters, base stations, dispatch consoles, mobile and portable radios, and antenna systems
• Perform advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting of RF, hardware, software, and IP-based network issues with minimal supervision
• Oversee and execute preventative maintenance programs and system health checks to ensure maximum reliability and uptime
• Conduct RF testing, system optimization, and coverage analysis, including drive testing and performance validation
• Lead site surveys, system design support, and infrastructure planning including equipment placement, grounding, and cabling
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and vendors to resolve complex technical challenges and support system upgrades or expansions
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and on-the-job training to junior technicians
• Maintain and review system documentation, configurations, logs, and compliance records
• Ensure adherence to safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company procedures in all field operations
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to critical system outages or emergencies as needed

Required Qualifications:

Education:

· Associate’s degree in Electronics Technology, Information Technology, Network Systems, or equivalent military training and hands-on experience

Experience:

· 5+ years of experience supporting P25 or Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems

· Demonstrated experience in system installation, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting

· Experience working independently in field environments and leading technical efforts

Skills & Abilities:

· Strong understanding of RF principles, trunked radio systems, and IP networking

· Ability to read and interpret complex schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation

· Proficiency with test equipment such as service monitors, spectrum analyzers, and multimeters

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

· Effective communication skills and ability to coordinate across cross-functional teams

· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required

Physical & Job Requirements:

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

· Ability to work outdoors, at elevated sites, and in varying environmental conditions

· Willingness to travel and support remote site work as needed

· Ability to pass background checks and drug screening

Preferred (Not Required):

· Manufacturer certifications (e.g., L3Harris, Tait, Motorola, Kenwood P25 platforms)

· Experience with microwave backhaul, IP networking, or public safety communications systems

· Networking certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA)

· Prior experience in a senior or lead technician role

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
