All good things flow through great coffee. At Sparrow Nest Coffeebar (SNC), where good days are hatched, conversation and creative ideas will flow as smoothly as our premium roasted coffee. An all-new coffeebar located in the historic Miner Building in downtown Eugene, SNC is a hub for art, innovation, and design serving premium organic coffee and locally-baked pastries.
We are looking for a dedicated and outgoing barista to join our team for 20-25+ hours/week. This position will require occasional weekend and evening shifts for special events, like First Friday Art walk. The successful candidate will be curious and passionate about coffee, and enjoy a collaborative and hands-on approach to business growth and ongoing education.
This position is supported directly by the Coffeebar Manager, but also by the Chief Operations Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Revolution Design Group.
Responsibilities:
- Welcome customers in a friendly and engaging manner, determining their coffee/food interests, as well as informing them about specials/new items.
- Be a “concierge” for the Miner Building, answering questions about the building’s occupants, directing potential customers to the correct floor.
- Educate customers about SNC products such as coffee drinks, baked goods, and be knowledgeable overall about the brand, its story, and be able to speak to the coffee we’re serving.
- Prepare drinks with efficiency by following prescribed recipes & techniques.
- Generate increased sales by attracting new customers while retaining regular customers through exceptional, consistent customer service.
- Field customer complaints and difficult situations with professionalism and tact and report them to the coffeebar manager.
- Clean and restock work/dining areas, empty trash, and sanitize equipment and utensils.
- Continue to learn about brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve customer satisfaction and product quality.
- Keep equipment operational by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
- Update personal job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading coffee, retail trade, and food service publications, etc.
- Always conduct oneself with honesty, integrity and keeping in mind what is best for SNC.
- Bring a friendly and positive attitude to work each day.
- Reports to the Barista Manager
Barista Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in food and coffee/espresso preparation or customer service preferred.
- Training and willingness to continue learning about food and beverage preparation.
- Exceptional listening and communication skills.
- Ability to walk, bend, lift up to 30lbs. and stand for extended periods of time.
- Availability to work approx. 25/hrs per week plus occasional evenings/ weekend events.
- Be an upbeat, engaging person who thrives on interaction with the public.
- Commitment to customer satisfaction and service excellence.
- Willingness to work as part of a high-energy, efficient team in a fast-paced environment.

$18/hr. + tips
Position Work Schedule
The ideal candidate would desire part-time employment, 20-25 hours/week, 2-3 shifts per week, days/shift times are flexible. The coffeebar is open for operation Monday through Friday, 7am to 3pm with an occasional Friday evening or Saturday shift (opening shifts begin at 6:30am, closing shifts end at 4pm). Additional shifts may be requested as part of the coffeebar’s participation in events such as Friday Art Walk and may open for the Saturday Market.
