hhgregg sounds great but as employer it's not so great.

Excellent training make you feel confident of the products that you are selling. On appliances and electronics the company have outstanding selection that you can offer all type of customers no matter their budget. Probably the best company regarding brand Inventory and stock availability.

Although you work on commission an at fist glance seems fair ,even generous, that is far from reality. First of all your commission is base on selling price and profit. The company focus is toward profit. here is were we the employees lose money , they adjust almost on a daily bases what they call "landed cost". The landed cost is the profit left on the product in stock after they discount all the expenses like: real product cost, shipping, rent, utilities and other retail expenses and of course company real profit. So if must of your commission is base on landed and they adjust it at will, product that today have $100.00 dollars on profit, tomorrow it might have $50.00 or even negative profit leaving you close to None or no commission unless you close the sale with the service plan that represents an average of 8% of the closed sales. The company keeps reducing profit on key products and lately a great amount of advertised products have zero or negative profit.

    Advice to Management

Company top management shows disregard of employees concerns. Also the way they play with commission structures seems devious. Jerry Throgmartin only concern is to expand the company and make it big, that isn't a bad thing but in the process he show little respect and consideration for the foundation of the company that is the sales people. hhgregg is still a small company and turnover might also be small for now, but as the company grow it can become a costly expense and even worst than that is the possibility of your best sales people working for Best Buy or Sears among other retailers.
