Atlas Roof Shingles & Underlayments is seeking a Utility Operator (up to $22.02/hr) for Hampton, GA.
Utility Operator Primary Responsibilities
The production Utility position is assigned to a shift to generally assist with the wrapping, counting, stacking, and sorting of material that has been made on the production line.
- Adhere to all safety programs and policies. Participates in safety and housekeeping programs established by the plant.
- Stack seconds from conveyor to pallets. Cleans damaged shingles from the floor, stacks them on pallets and keeps conveyors clean.
- Re-wrap bundles that need new wrapping. Fixes bundles on jammed pallets.
- Read work orders or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials containers to be moved.
- Notify appropriate personnel of any equipment malfunctions. Visually inspects production and takes corrective actions.
- Communicate to supervisor and leads any safety issues or problems that need to be addressed on the line.
- Assist in repairing line breaks and startups.
- Assist wrapper operator in changing wrapper rolls and making splices when needed. Stacks rolls (manually, with assistance) onto pallets.
- Re-stack pallets at the Palletizer when needed.
- Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by forklift and / or hand.
- Move materials from storage or work sites to designated areas.
- Count, weigh, and record number of units of materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
- Stack or assemble materials into bundles and bands together.
- Remove samples of materials, labels with identifying information, and takes samples to the laboratory for analysis.
- Lift heavy objects by hand, cleans work area, machines and equipment to assist machine operators.
- Shovel loose materials such as sand, gravel, metals, plastics or chemicals into machine hoppers or into vehicles and containers such as wheelbarrows, scrap truck, or barrels.
- Keep working are clean throughout the shift.
- Operate industrial trucks to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
Utility Operator Experience
- 1-2 years of working experience in an industrial / manufacturing setting or equivalent combination or experience and education
- Forklift Certification preferred

- Basic understanding of computers.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
Utility Operator Education, Licenses & Certifications
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
Utility Operator Additional Information
- This position rotates shifts every 30 days.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must be able to climb stairs, stand for extended periods of time, stoop, kneel, and safely lift up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and/or reach.
- Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to occasionally work in wet and /or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.
- The noise level is usually moderate.
- Must be able to work in very confined spaces and on top of silos.
