For over 135 years, University Settlement has been an anchor in the low-income and immigrant communities where we work, offering pioneering programs in early childhood care and education, youth development, eviction prevention, literacy, theater and visual arts, older adults services, and mental health. Each year, we engage over 40,000 New Yorkers through our network of 30 sites in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Our mission is to empower residents by building on their strengths through comprehensive, quality services that meet the current needs of the community; innovation that anticipates future needs; and advocacy to bring justice to the community as a whole.

    Wellness Together aims to improve the quality of life for homebound older adults due to age or infirmity. Through comprehensive case management, various virtual group activities, and volunteer services, the program supports older adults to live their lives to their fullest potential. The program is part of the agency’s LEARN (Longevity through Education, Arts, Recreation, and Nutrition) network that works with older adults.

    Responsibilities:

    • Work with the Program Director to ensure high-quality services and contract compliance
    • Provide individual and group supervision to casework staff and MSW students as assigned by the Director
    • Oversee the development and provision of service plans, treatment plans, staff and client interactions, and regular casework documentation by direct reports to ensure high-quality and impactful services are delivered in an effective and timely manner to homebound older adults
    • Maintain working knowledge of geriatric social work practice standards and theory and incorporate into clinical practice
    • Carry a reduced caseload as needed to provide coverage
    • Maintain working knowledge of resources for older adults
    • Support conducting intensive outreach
    • Support intake and assessment of clients as needed
    • Support the development and implementation of supplement services offered by the program and external providers
    • Collaborate with external partners and leaders in the field of aging to enhance program offerings
    • Other related duties within the scope of the position as assigned by the Supervisor

    Qualifications:

    • LMSW required or to be obtained within 6 months of hire
    • SIFI Certificate required or must be eligible to earn upon obtaining LMSW
    • 1-3 years of experiences in the field of aging required
    • At least one year of supervisory and/or management experience, preferred
    • Demonstrated ability to work with and engage hard-to-reach populations required
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills along with good interpersonal and computer skills
    • Ability to be a proactive, creative, problem solver is a must
    • Proven track record of effectively working autonomously and in a fast-paced environment
    • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish, English/Cantonese or English/Mandarin a plus; Language requirement will change based on program needs

      Even though I was an intern, the workers truly found the benefits useful. Some were able to provide health coverage for their entire family for very cheap and there’s a union!
