Graduate education is required to secure employment as an instructor at an accredited institution. Instructors may work as full-time teaching faculty members with a yearly salary, or as adjunct faculty who are paid on a course-by-course basis for one term at a time. This field is expected to grow, as in recent years, universities have shifted from hiring tenure-track faculty to hiring cheaper teaching-focused instructors. Instructors should be skilled public speakers, patient mentors and well-organized individuals. They are assessed by student evaluations and colleagues’ observation.
