I applied in-person. The process took a week. I interviewed at 24 Hour Fitness (Pasadena, CA) in April 2008.
24 Hour Fitness does all of its application processing for the gym-level employee via their website: www.24hourfitness.com.
I gained the initial interview by seeing the manager in charge of the appropriate department in-person. My first interview was handled by the Operations Manager and the Assistant Manager at the time. My second interview was done by the Club Manager
I was able to negotiate a little bit because of my prior work history. I began at the base level of Service Representative. Initial offer for hourly pay was $8.00.
