Pros
Altium is an excellent place to work if you are self-motivated, enjoy a fast-paced, ever-changing landscape, and tie your behavior to performance outcomes.
- Excellent growth potential for those who grind and perform well
- Ideas are never shunned no matter where you are on the ladder. Altium leadership is always willing to try new ideas if it means better performance
- Micromanaging is kept to a minimum, especially for those who perform
- The flexibility for those who are reliable, trustworthy, and hard workers goes a long way
- Amazing company culture with interesting, friendly people from all walks of life
- Engaging interactions while working on projects with other like-minded individuals
- Excellent benefits such as free lunch when in the office
Cons
Overall, working for Altium has been a very positive experience for me, but of course, nothing is perfect, and there's always room for improvement.
- At times, the workload can be overwhelming, and while working long hours and burning the midnight oil isn't required, sometimes it can happen if you care about the performance of the company
- At times, communication can become an issue causing some misalignment
- The fast-paced, ever-changing nature could be a con for some, but for me, it keeps things exciting
- Lastly, those who may not be as self-motivated and don't have a growth plan may not have a clear path for development or growth (this is a pro and a con in the sense that it breeds a talented workforce and leadership crew but may leave some potential on the table for those with talent that could use the mentoring and development
Advice to Management
I think Altium Management has done a phenomenal job with the company, taking extraordinary risks to come out on top and ultimately improve the workplace for everyone. My advice to Management would be to continue systematically improving communication lines to ensure the workforce is all working in unison towards the common goal (which I know is already a priority). Lastly, my advice would be to continue to build a structure that has mentoring and development built into it to maximize the potential of such employees who deserve and need it.
