I have been working at Arch Coal full-time

    Pros

Pretty relaxed environment. Can wear jeans. Benefits are about average. Breakrooms and free soft drinks.

    Cons

Should embrace more working from home. Coal market is tough right now so not a lot of hiring or monetary advancement.

    Advice to Management

Hang in there. The tide against coal will turn

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Arch Coal (Saint Louis, MO) in April 2012.

    Interview

Phone screen, panel interview with 12 people in one day (sets of 2). Follow up interview with CIO, director, and 2 managers. The phone screen was with director of technology, he basically wanted to know my background and also asked a few technical questions. The panel was with a wide range of different types of employees, some that were in IT and technical and others that were supported by IT.

    Interview Questions

    • Questions about how you interact with users, PL/SQL technical questions, Technical questions on designing software modules, questions on software interfaces.   1 Answer

    Negotiation

simple, they made an offer, I made a counter offer that included an extra $5K and extra week of vacation, then I accepted.
