I have been working at Brightview Senior Living part-time (More than a year)
Distinction of focus from whats "lost" to focus on what you have left, lets keep that a priority to continue to enhance quality of life. Remain as independent as possible, as long as possible with a little help from friends. Taking folks to events outside the residency, enjoying a care free outing with friends. Involvement of Residents in meetings for decisions being made for the entire community, allowing good grieving/cudo's, Allowing staff to become involved on a voluntary basis.
Learning to adjust to changes in residents as they age, seeing decline is difficult at times. Not able to get through to some family members when they don't understand the changes and/or think their loved one is of "sound mind" and making decisions on their own without family input when needed. When asked at times about the decisions, they shy away from being truthful with their loved ones.
Advice to Management
Listen to those who are on the front lines of every area, hear what they have as suggestions when they can see a way to make things better. My community does this well. Make sure all the important information gets to the correct people.
