    Application

I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Carnegie Mellon University (Pitts, PA) in April 2012.

    Interview

The process is quite standard for graduate school. Apply online via a form, and they will reply to you several months later. At this point, you have already been accepted. They will invite you to the campus to have a visit with professors whose interest matches your own. After you arrive on campus, there will be a matching process to determine your adviser. In this process, you will discuss in depth the professor's research and you can meet all of their students. This typically takes 3-5 weeks. After the matching process is complete, you will be a member of the research team and will finally begin to undertake some research.

    Interview Questions

    • When you visit the campus, you will have discussions with professors about research interest and goals. Nothing too technical, they just want to see who you match with. It is quite a relaxed process, as by the time of the campus visit, you have already been accepted, and they are simply trying to convince you to choose CMU over other schools that may have also accepted you.   Answer Question
