I have been working at Children’s Home Society of Florida full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working for the oldest and largest nonprofit in Florida, we are tasked with bettering the lives of our clients each day - to me, this means I have a job that I look forward to going to every morning.
I love the flexibility my caseload allows me.
Leadership is VERY supportive and encouraging.
    Teams work well together.

    Cons

    Salary is not competitive.
    Insurance options aren't great.
It's difficult to move up in some programs, resulting in a pretty low ceiling for growth. Most opportunities require a move to our home office. Being this large of an agency, I wish more "corporate" positions could be held throughout the state, like satellites.

    Advice to Management

Id really like to see a more clear path to leadership positions, specifically some kind of program where EDs identify future leaders in various programs and "groom" them. I believe this might help retain some staff who feel they have hit a ceiling and it gives them something to look forward to.
I also believe that we really need to look at our compensations. In order to recruit, and retain, the best talent, we need to make sure they are at least paid as well as other agencies in the area. CHS really needs to be the end spot in people's careers, rather than a stepping stone. I hate to see great people, talented people, passionate people, leave us, only to go on with their careers in another agency. The end result doesn't really effect our communities, as they still get to have these amazing people working in them, however, we as an agency take a hit. I understand its a delicate balance, having to find the right compensation, but I firmly believe that if we want to be Florida's Employer of Choice, we need to give Floridians a strong reason to work for us and stay with us.
