Flexible hours and the ability to work from home.
Genentech provided me with an Apple laptop and they have awesome live technical support available 24x7. Everything I needed was provided without any hassles.
The majority of the people you interact with are brilliant, cooperative and hard working.
Subsidized food in the Cafeterias is tasty and fresh. You can join the gym for a small monthly fee.
There are few mid-level permanent jobs to transition to full-time work. If you want to be a full-time employee and you don't have an advanced degree, good luck. Some people choose to work as an administrative assistant and work hard at networking to move up. Otherwise, you find yourself on the contractor's merry-go-round of 18 months of full-time work 6 months off. It is sometimes depressing watching the full-time people going to parties and events while you have to work in your cubical in a nearly empty building.
Advice to Management
Work with the people in Basel to help them understand the value of having more full-time positions and the hope of career advancement for mid-level workers.
