I worked at Genentech full-time (More than 3 years)
Benefits are awesome. Culture is definitely work hard, play hard. Bus, gym, car wash are great. Many networking opportunities. Take advantage of them.
Work/life balance close to impossible. Workload is uneven depending on your team. Moving around is not as easy as one may think. It depends on who you know. It also depends on management support. Don't accept job as a way to get into Genentech. Make sure you really want job.
Advice to Management
It's hard to give general advice to management because there is so much variation. Encourage & model work/life balance & well being. Not everything is an emergency.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Genentech (San Jose, CA) in May 2016.
Just a phone video call interview. 3 managers interviewed me for the job. Easy set up. They wanted me to interview on Thursday, but very flexible when I want to interview on Wednesday.
