I have been working at Grant Thornton full-time (More than 3 years)
GT as a whole has a great culture.. but each office/service line has its own which can vary drastically. Flex time off benefit is amazing. Some projects are very cool. The company's smaller size and constant change opens the door for young employees to make an impact.
The constant change & smaller size also has cons - things are simply not as organized and well setup as other top professional firms. There are certain office cultures (Bellevue) that are toxic. The company does a poor job at removing terrible managers which as a result pushes away great talent. Note - all of this is service line specific.
Advice to Management
Review the company with the peter principle in mind. Make an effort to improve offices with struggling/toxic cultures by pushing away partners that create that culture... those individuals aren't hard to spot. Also, bet on yourself & take the risk of not accepting crap projects and focus staff on development / targetting strategy projects. Remove partners that can't come to grips with losing revenue short-term in place of capturing better long-term growth.
