I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Harris (Washington, DC) in August 2013.
The process was initiated through an employee referral. I did two phone screenings and had to fill out a significant application form. The form included security questions, financial information, security clearance data, personal information and a rehash of my resume. The entire process took place over three weeks but was definitely driven by the employee referral and his advocacy. Without the advocacy I'm sure I would not have gotten out of the stack.
