I have been working at Howard Hughes Medical Institute full-time (More than a year)
Pros
Top notch healthcare, benefits, retirement savings, etc.
Great culture, management nurtures professional development
Cons
Principle Investigators funded through HHMI are not held to the same caliber as the company
Advice to Management
Develop HHMI-funded investigators into better leaders and mentors and evaluate them on this performance aspect. Let it also be contingent on keeping their funding.
The non-interference strategy leaves principal investigators open to developing wasteful spending habits, and carelessness towards their lab personnel. Attaining HHMI funding is somewhat akin to winning the lottery.

Application
I applied in-person. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Howard Hughes Medical Institute (Dallas, TX) in June 2013.
Interview
One day interview. I gave a technical talk on my previous research, all the questions are about my research. Then I talked to some lab members basically to get some idea how the lab runs, how people find jobs after leaving the lab. It was a nice interview but I am exhausted because I kept talking on that day.
