I have been working at Rocketship Public Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've been at Rocketship Legacy Prep for two years and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience thus far. I've been blessed with supportive leadership both years who focus on leveraging instruction, holding high expectations with students and staff, while also showing genuine care for everyone in the building. Our staff is cared for immensely which makes for a positive work environment.

    Other pros include:

-Strong parent engagement; parents partner with teachers and volunteer throughout the school day which leads to strong relationships among families and staff.

-Inclusive environment: All students are taught within the four walls of the classroom with differentiated supports as needed. Both general education teachers and special education teachers co-teach and utilize small group instruction.

-Coaching model: Teachers are observed at least once a week by coaches to receive purposeful feedback to leverage instruction; while also offering support as needed.

-Weekly Professional Development: Once a week staff are given the opportunity for professional development in the building. This allows teachers to expand their knowledge in preferred areas and analyze data to better target instruction.

    Cons

-Inconsistent prep time: This has improved dramatically since I began working at Rocketship, however, aside from the lunch/recess break, prep time is not consistent on a daily basis which can sometimes lead to bringing work home.
-Though it feels like there's not enough time in the day to give our kids what they need, the days are longer than a traditional public school.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Rocketship Public Schools (Washington, DC) in March 2020.

    Interview

Scheduled a phone interview within one week of applying. I’m so dissapoynted in how rude the interviewer was and chose not to continue with the process. She was utterly disrespectful, clearly in a rush, and continued to cut me off throughout the experience. The scripted interview questions were basic but it was the tone and seemingly “rushed experience” that discouraged me from wanting to be apart of this org.
