I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at University of California Berkeley (UC Berkeley, CA) in Nov 2021
InterviewI interviewed in November 2021 for a Director of Development position for the College of L&S at UC Berkeley.
I was contacted by email to schedule an initial 30-minute interview on Zoom. The person scheduling was efficient; the interview was scheduled for two days after I was contacted
The hiring manager conducted the interview. It was unpleasant. The negative vibes were palpable from the first moments of the call. The interviewer clearly didn't want to be conducting the interview. There was no eye contact, absolutely nothing conversational. I felt disregarded and I have no idea why she was interviewing me - she seemed completely disinterested. I imagine that it would be awful to work for her.
At the end of the interview, I asked what the next steps in the interview process looked like. This is a standard question for a candidate to ask an interviewer, right? Instead of answering the question, she appeared annoyed, and said she said she had just begin conducting interviews. That's it. Zero transparency.
I withdrew my application after the interview.
Reflecting on this afterwards, I also wondered how UC Berkeley can claim an unbiased interview process when initial interviews are conducted on Zoom rather than phone.Interview
