Mission: Essentially, 14 West offers The Agora Companies and their employees the unique luxury to do the work they want to do rather than the work they have to do. They get to focus on their research, copy and marketing. We work passionately to help protect, guide and grow their ...
I have been working at 14 West full-time (More than 10 years)
I have been employed by The Agora Companies for over 15 years, and LOVE it. There is always something new to learn, I've always felt valued and that my contributions are meaningful. Management is frequently asking, "what can we do better?"...they listen and act upon these ideas. Whether it is modifying our corporate benefits (in addition to adding healthy choices like yoga, meditation, mixed martial arts, cardio bootcamps, health clinic assessments, etc), considering non-silo-esque work environments, enabling some employees to work remotely if possible, (based on the responsibilities of the position) there are plenty of perks.
Have you ever had a manager do a one-on-one meeting on adjoining treadmills? Or while walking to Starbucks for a frothy beverage together? We have very personalized and adaptive meeting spaces within our offices as well.
And there are many opportunities for cross-affiliate collaboration. The corporate climate is supportive, I feel cared about.
One of my responsibilities when I was hired was to build or develop systems and best practices. We were a much smaller company, and we were growing rapidly (we still are). I enjoyed the independence and free-thinking that this involved...we didn't have certain processes in place, there wasn't someone to hold my hand and provide a blue print. I find this a positive attribute, but I understand others prefer to have more structure. Training is provided, and staff are well-supported. I feel that employees that are comfortable taking initiative, asking why, offering alternative ideas...they are the ones that are motivated to stay challenged and engaged here.
Advice to Management
Each of our affiliates runs autonomously. Each affiliate and team has their own culture. Assess which teams are successful, understand why, and support, encourage, develop those attributes. Be direct and timely with feedback.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at 14 West (Baltimore, MD).
The hiring process was very smooth. I applied online to the company website after receiving a recommendation from a current employee. I was contacted by a recruiter and went through a tiered interview process involving phone, video, and in-person screenings. All parties involved displayed extreme professionalism and the utmost respect.
