The History of ACI Worldwide
With more than 4,500 employees worldwide and offices in principal cities around the globe, ACI now has one of the most diverse and robust product portfolios in the industry, with application software spanning the entire electronic payments chain.
1975: Creating Software for Emerging Modern Banking Systems
ACI was founded in Omaha, Nebraska, developing software for the new NonStop server computers that banks and stock exchanges were adopting. Early projects involved building systems to handle ATMs and other banking systems requiring extremely high uptimes. This led to a first global product called BASE24.
Expanding Services and Platforms
ACI expanded to developing software for service transactions at point-of-sale terminals and banking branch systems. Eventually, services covered more functions for credit card transactions, such as clearing, settlement and fraud detection.
Soon, other hardware suppliers, such as IBM, HP, Stratus and SUN, supported ACI payments software, which led to an expansion of wholesale banking payments, wire transfers and automated clearing house transactions.
In the early 2000s, ACI supported online banking, card and merchant management, and retailer solutions, then introduced the agile payments strategy as a unified payments solution.
Global Reach Begins in Australia
While early customers were all in the U.S., an Australian bank came aboard in 1981, starting an international growth path. By 1986, ACI had 131 customers in 14 countries, and offices and partners around the world.
For 20 years, ACI was a private company, with periods of ownership under US West and Tandem. Since 1995, ACI has been a public company traded on NASDAQ, initially under the name Transaction Systems Architects (TSA), and since July 2007 under the name ACI Worldwide, Inc. (ACIW).
Acquisitions and Growth
With the acquisitions of S1 Corporation in 2012, and Online Resources Corporation and Official Payments in 2013, ACI increased the reach of its bill pay offerings into federal, state and local governments, municipal utilities, higher education institutions and charitable giving organizations.
Then in 2014, ACI acquired the leading eCommerce and fraud prevention company, Retail Decisions (ReD), bolstering services in payments risk management. And in 2015, ACI’s acquisition of PAY.ON, boosted end-to-end eCommerce payments capabilities and the most complete omni-channel payments experience available.

I have been working at ACI Worldwide full-time (More than 5 years)
I like that it is a fast paced company. You never get bored. It is a large global organization yet there is a family like feeling working here. Lots of employee activity, casual work environment, super friendly people, flexible work schedule making it very friendly specially for young parents with children, competitive pay and starting PTO is above average than most companies and benefits are very good. Micromanagement is not part of the company culture, if someone is a low performer managers are open to scrutinizing the possibility that the employee may be in the wrong role and he/she are given the opportunity to move into a better fit role. I love how internal mobility is welcomed to improve and grow your career. Managers and HR does not hold you back from applying to other internal openings within the company. HR actually works for the employees and their interest and are very helpful.
All companies have cons and their own nuisances. At ACI we are very process driven and metrics driven that can sometimes slow down the actual deliverables and customer focus. However, if you bring that up to your management they are willing to listen, revisit and streamline things to improve customer experience. A management that is open and willing to listen is half the problem solved.
Advice to Management
Focus more on taping into the talent to deliver to customers both internally and externally versus being so process and metrics driven. Some processes and metrics are important and must be run, reviewed and used but a lot of times they don't take us anywhere and a lot of time is spent on processes and metrics versus doing the actual day job.
I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ACI Worldwide (Naples, FL) in May 2018.
Had in initial phone interview. This was followed by several rounds of in-person interviews with a broad cross-section of leaders across the company representing the immediate business area and other groups associated with the role. Also included discussions with key HR leaders.
