AFL – Why Work For Us?

We have a reputation in the fiber optics industry for consistently being at the forefront of technology and innovation. Want proof? We were founded in 1984 with a single product, fiber optic ground wire. Today, we sell thousands of products and services to multiple markets across the globe and have become a billion-dollar company in revenue. Not only do we have a track record for growth and financial stability, but we are also backed by Fujikura, a $6 billion company with a 128-year history of product innovation. With our culture of commitment and professional growth opportunities, AFL will give you the opportunity to reach new heights and take your career to the next level.

A joint venture by ALCOA and Fujikura Ltd. in 1984, AFL was created to manufacture fiber optic ground wire for the public utility industry. In 2005, Fujikura assumed 100% ownership of AFL and moved its headquarters to Duncan, SC.  With the support of Fujkura's 120 plus years in the cable and wire industry, AFL has positioned itself for growth and expansion in the telecommunications industry for years to come.

Today, through organic growth and several acquisitions, AFL has over 4,500 associates with operations across the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia.  We provide industry-leading products and services to the electric utility, broadband, communications, factory, enterprise, wireless and transit rail markets as well as oil and gas, mining, nuclear, avionics, medical, renewable and intelligent grid. Our product portfolio includes fiber optic cable, transmission and substation accessories, outside plant equipment, connectors, fusion splicers, test equipment and training. Our service portfolio includes market-leading positions with the communications companies supporting OEM, outside plant, enterprise and wireless areas.

AFL Culture

At AFL, we design and manufacture products and provide services that make connections possible for our customers. While that is what we do, AFL is much more than that. We are a group of talented individuals who strive to make a difference. That is our culture. We are laser-focused on taking care of our customers, and we are just as committed to helping our communities.

When you work with AFL people, you will see the spark. It may be engineering the best field installable connector at an excellent value. It may be installing your data center to optimize technology and keep your business connected. Or, it may be research that results in a new technology that leads to a major impact. But it is always about doing more. Making incremental improvements that improve your business.
How does this happen? It starts with living our values:
  • Customers First
  • Integrity
  • Innovation
  • Collaboration & Accountability
  • Environment, Health & Safety
  • Community Engagement

So let us take you inside the AFL culture. Hear it from our employees—the people delivering the difference every day. We think you will like what you see and hear.

AFL is committed to being an exemplary corporate citizen in the communities where we operate by making a positive difference in the lives of others. Through our Community Outreach Program, we sponsor families in need, fund grants, donate to United Way, give our time during our Month of Service and lend a hand to Disaster Relief opportunities throughout our footprint. Through these initiatives, we seek to help and support our neighbors by building strong and thriving communities.

Why? Because it’s in our DNA. We have seen our commitments work. We have witnessed families finding a place to call home; students with an opportunity to expand their horizons beyond what they ever dreamed possible; families with food on their plates and holiday gifts for their children; and we see so much more that can happen if we connect with our communities.

AFL’s Community Outreach Program consists of several initiatives – all with the same goal: to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

I have been working at AFL full-time (Less than a year)

True team spirit - everyone wants their peers to be successful and look out of each other. Potential of personal growth is real for anyone interested. I like the small town environment, which makes it easy to commute. Leadership members are present and easy to talk with.

After 6 months, I cannot see anything I do not like.

    Team Manager Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Telephone, TX
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at AFL (Telephone, TX) in February 2017.

Feb 9-Telephone Screening, went well. Mar 1-Telephone w/ Exec. Director. Director began conversation complaining about having to do telephone interview, she was audibly irritated with this process due to me being in another Province. From my experience this is typical in the business world with professionals relocating. I attempted to apologize and continue making the interview positive.
I answered all her questions very well in my opinion and felt the role was perfectly in line with my previous experience, the Director loosened up a bit but was still stand-off’ish. I continued with the positive attitude.
I was told additional interviews were in progress and should here back with-in 2 weeks. I sent the standard thank you email to the Talent Acquisition specialists. Didn’t hear anything back-totally normal. 1.5 weeks later, I sent a follow up email asking for status and expressing my excitement for the position (honestly, would’ve loved it!), I received an OOTO so I followed up with proxy staff who stated no decision has been made yet. I waited till Talen Acq returned and left another pleasant “checking in” email-no reply. I waited a few more days and finally called her, received another (outdated) OOTO message with another proxy to contact. I sent him a warm message requesting an update.
I have received NO replies. No updates not even the “thanks but we are going with another candidate” cold email. Unprofessional and inconsiderate behavior in my opinion. I’m going to assume….I didn’t get the role =)
