Our History

Founder Bill Mullis was a provider of guard dogs for more than twenty years. In 1991, despite having his protective fleet on site, he was still experiencing break-ins. He then decided to build, test, and continuously improve an electric security fence designed to offer the best protection for his place of business. In time, this electric security fence, due to its unmatched deterrence value, replaced the dogs and we soon became the Electric Guard Dog. 

Our company quickly grew into a multi-faceted security business over the next two decades as companies in the auto auction, metal recycling, freight, and rental industries began seeing the results and cost savings that the Electric Guard Dog brought them. We've grown to become a security partner for market leaders in all of these core segments and recognized as the #1 Theft Deterrent Service™ in the U.S. 

In 2007, a majority interest in Electric Guard Dog was acquired by a group of private investors lead by Ulysses Management. Seeing the ever-increasing demand for our products and services, and the opportunity to broaden the reach of the product to new industries, the new ownership group began to put in place the infrastructure for growth. A key first step in the process was hiring a new management team to continue to broaden the companies solutions. 

Since then, Electric Guard Dog has experienced rapidly accelerated growth for the market-leading electric security fence company nationwide. Over the last 10 years, RMR has tripled and the company intends to triple again over the next several years. 
  
In 2016, the company experienced annual double-digit growth during this remarkable year that included Electric Guard Dog's acquisition by Snow Phipps. This deal earned two M&A Advisor "Deal of the Year" nominations. Less than two months after EGD’s acquisition, the company closed on its own acquisition, Perimeter Security Systems, and was named  SDM Magazine's 2016 Dealer of the Year.
  
The company has been named to the Inc. List for the last five years, as well as being ranked in the top 20 security companies in the U.S. on the SDM 100 List for the past six years, named to Security Dealer & Integrator's "Fast 50" of security integrators for six years, and named to South Carolina’s List of the Best Places to Work for the past 3 years.
 
In 2019, the company was ranked #2 of the Top 50 Companies to Sell for by Selling Power Magazine. The company also was honored to receive the ASTROS award for the Top Perimeter Security System in the Nation. 
 
In 2020, we made the difficult decision to change our name to AMAROK. As our organization evolved to the Ultimate Perimeter Security provider we needed a name that would represent that. Our goal with this change is for our new name and branding to reflect the intensity, aggressiveness, and dedication we put into protecting you and all our customers every single day. As a nod to our heritage and to stay true to the core of who we are, we have named our electric fence The Electric Guard Dog®.
