Best Places to Interview: 2017 (#52)
I worked at Academy Sports + Outdoors full-time (More than 8 years)
Mostly positive atmosphere. Coworkers are genuinely nice, supportive, and care about both individual and team success. Great benefit package, too.
Company vision and mission somewhat inconsistent. Some members of upper management very secretive about company initiatives and departmental business. Average pay compared to similar positions in comparable companies.
Advice to Management
Work on all members being more honest and open about company business to foster an even more engaging and collaborative environment. If you expect the same from all your direct reports, they should be able to expect the same from all of you.
I applied online. I interviewed at Academy Sports + Outdoors (Katy, TX).
I had two phone interviews. One with HR then a few days later they emailed me asking to schedule a phone interview with the department manager. I thought both interviews went well and both managers responded during the interview as if the were impressed with my responses and my experience but after the interview with the department manager I never heard anything else. I tried to reach out to them for an update but got no response. I just think it's unprofessional to treat an applicant like you're impressed with them then ignore them. If you're not actually impressed then at least be neutral in your response to the applicant.
