I worked at Academy of Natural Sciences as a contractor (Less than a year)
My group and I were contracted to building a moveable museum piece for the ANS. It was a pleasure to work with the biologists on staff and the administration who were all very excited and friendly as well as supportive.
The administration was generally slow to follow through on action items after a meeting and was uninterested in expanding the scope of the project into the academic sphere.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Academy of Natural Sciences.
They have you fill out a form online listing any accolades and also why you want to work there or why you think you would be a good fit for the volunteer program. They then will review your application and they will have someone in charge email you back if you have been accepted for interview. The interview is usually at a time of your choosing in the museum and its much of the same material gone over in the online app. If you are accepted, the head of the program will email you and you can work out a schedule.
