I have been working at Acucela full-time
Great location in the heart of downtown. Compensation and benefits are generally good for area/industry.
The Old Boy's network on the 42nd floor is rapidly expanding. Management has always been top-heavy, but it's now reached a point of absurdity. Hiring and promotions occur with no basis in logic, reason, or merit. Employees are leaving and not being replaced, leaving too few remaining resources. The culture has changed with recent management additions and deletions, but it has not improved. Where 41st floor staff were previously being reprimanded and punished by bullies and schoolmarms, they are now being excluded from the 42nd floor country club.
Advice to Management
Pay attention to the people actually completing the work. Ask for input from staff, remove the dead weight, and hire competent and affable replacements.
