Advantage Metals Recycling – Why Work With Us?

At Advantage Metals Recycling, we strive to be good neighbors, good stewards of the environment and a great place to do business.

Our employees, customers, communities and environment deserve nothing less than our very best every day.

We take pride in our company commitment to the:

  • Culture of safety. A goal of zero accidents. Ever.
  • Culture of environmental awareness. Because scrap yards help save the Earth.
  • Culture of integrity. We follow strict standards for what materials we will accept.
  • Culture of giving back. Supporting the communities in which we work and live.

Neighborhood Outreach

We strive to be a good neighbor in the communities in which we do business. For example, all our facilities support local community fire departments, providing space and vehicles for firefighters training with “Jaws of Life”.

We work with fire and police departments, and have developed strong community partnerships with programs like:The

  • Partnering with Pettis County Fire Department serving residents in a local Sedalia nursing home
  •  Boy and Girl Scouts of America
  •  Junior Achievement
Safer for the planet and your neighborhood.

We have always worked diligently with law enforcement and state and local legislators to find ways to deter theft of metal items without creating undue hardship on the many good citizens who chose to do the right thing and recycle metals instead of letting the metals be lost forever in landfills. Our purchasing processes always comply with federal, state and local law requirements and our trained staff help explain the requirements as needed, as the requirements often vary based on the type of metal that are being sold.

Working with communities…and the people who protect them.

We are deeply rooted in the communities where we do business and are respected for our integrity. Community residents and leaders know we have strict standards for what materials we’ll accept at our facilities. For example, we have the most comprehensive radiation detection system in the industry and have received awards for our performance in this field. We make it easy for customers to drop off ferrous or nonferrous scrap and get paid quickly and reliably. We also help communities maximize their tax base, while minimizing their local environmental footprint. Serving those who serve and protect..

At AMR, we recognize the pressures and challenges employees face when trying to balance work and home life.  We also understand that our employees are better able to meet the demands of their jobs when their own personal needs are being met.

Because we value the time employees commit to our team, we offer competitive compensation including bonus opportunities and an excellent benefits package:

  • Company sponsored 401(k) plan with company match and additional company retirement contributions
  • Medical and Dental coverage for employees and their dependents, including preventive care
  • Life Insurance
  • Disability Coverage
  • Paid Holidays
  • Paid Vacation
  • Employee Monthly Stock Investment Plan with company match
  • Flexible Spending Accounts

Advantage Metals Recycling offers execellent pay and benefits, and they’re second to none in job security. The company consists of a dozen locations, making relocation an option. Scrap metal recycling requires a safe working environment and AMR offers an outstanding workplace culture. Safety is, hands down, this company’s north star.

Commodities are, at times, a rollercoaster ride. Employees must be flexible, energetic and coachable. If they are, they’re rewarded with compensation, benefits and the opportunity to advance in an industry leading company.

    Advice to Management

Effective management produces solid results in all environments and this particular management team has been able to do that. The path to those results has been slowly outward, with more people and teams slowly added to the decision making process. I hope that trend continues.

    Commercial Trainee Interview

    Average Interview

I applied through college or university. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Advantage Metals Recycling (Kansas City, MO) in November 2018.

David J Joseph attended my university's Career Fair and I applied for the position online through Handshake. I heard back quickly that I had been selected for a first round, in-person interview. The interview was mostly resumé based with general questions about past experiences and why I was interested in the job. It lasted about 30 minutes. Within a couple of weeks I heard back that I was selected to interview in Kansas City with the Advantage Metals Recycling team (part of the DJJ company). The AMR team was extremely friendly and welcoming when I arrived. The process consisted of six separate interviews as well as a personality/general knowledge test that took about an hour. Upon completion of the test and individual interviews, I was given a tour of the scrap yard where I had a chance to learn more about the recycling process and how that intersected with the position that I was applying for. In its entirety, the process took roughly five hours. However, it was very engaging and the team did a good job of making everything run smoothly.
