    Pros

Plenty of opportunity to take responsibility if you want it. Great work hours relative to industry. Company tries to hold onto some of their charm from when they were private business.

    Cons

Absolutely terrible culture with senior management lacking leadership and communication skills. Senior individuals are almost never in the office and don't communicate their schedule or anything about the direction of business.

    Advice to Management

Firm has lost many of the hardworking individuals that helped to build the business or deserve to be future leaders. Start running the firm like a business, holding people accountable, and stop hiring, paying, or promoting people due to relationships outside office.

    Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Advisory Research (Chicago, IL) in March 2010.

    Interview

Initial phone interview, then a series of 1-1 interview with various members of the team. First two interviews were with analysts/PMs. Fairly standard, questions were tough, but fair. Final interview was with CIO of firm. Much different style than the first two interviews: Less focused on knowledge/skills/ability to do job. Overall rating of interview process is based on the final interview.
