Involving, in total over 2,000 employees, the network aims to spur the recognition and development of women across the Group by attracting, developing and retaining skilled women.

Women shape the future of the aerospace industry

Abbie Hutty is an award-winning engineer and advocate for the industry in the UK. “When I was a teenager, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life," she says. "Being an engineer didn’t even occur to me. Then I saw the Airbus Mars Express mission on the news and thought: if engineers make things that go into space, that sounds like a pretty cool thing to do."

Today, Abbie is developing the structure of the ExoMars Rover Vehicle at the Airbus Defence and Space site in Stevenage, UK. This forms part of a joint European Space Agency-Roscosmos mission, with touchdown of the rover on the Red Planet scheduled for January 2019. “I’m working on a Mars mission myself – the very thing that inspired me to become an engineer.”

    I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Airbus Group (Ashburn, VA) in September 2015.


    Applied for the position through their website. Was contacted via phone by H.R. to arrange travel to their VA location. All travel expenses paid by Airbus, arrived at their location and was interviewed by the hiring manager, H.R. rep, and another manager within a different division of the group. Interview lasted one hour only.
