Akima – Why Work For Us?

Akima supports a diverse portfolio of operating companies with one strategic goal: enabling superior outcomes for our customers’ missions.

What does that mean for our employees?  That you are part of something bigger.  You can enjoy the agility and autonomy of working for a small business while also being supported by a $1.2 billion enterprise with more than 30 years of federal contracting experience, 7,000 employees, and operations in 46 states, 2 territories and 12 countries. Career growth and opportunity? Look no further.

You will notice it on day one. Men and women from all backgrounds. Veterans from every service branch. Alaskan shareholders. We do not need laws to make us diverse. It is just who we are. The numbers speak for themselves: 30% women. Over 40% minority. 19% veteran. 12% disabled. But it goes deeper than that. It is our quiet outreach to food banks, soup kitchens and clothing drives. It is 100% of our profits going to our Alaskan parent NANA and its 14,300 Iñupiat shareholders. All while becoming a leading provider of products and services to the federal government. There is a lot more and we are proud of it all. You can look around, but you will not find another company like us. We are Akima. Come join us.

Through the shared services model, Akima’s diverse operating companies offer career opportunities, professional development and benefits packages that rival the largest government contractors. This includes personal health plans with medical, dental, vision and prescription coverage; retirement plans; life insurance; flexible spending accounts; and paid-time-off. Employees may opt for additional life insurance and dependent coverage. Employees also can take advantage of education and professional development assistance. Options may vary depending on contract details.

Beyond returning an investment in dollars, Akima maintains a deep commitment to its shareholders, with an emphasis on social and cultural preservation programs, as well as providing educational and occupational opportunities, such as scholarships, internships and hiring preferences. Of particular importance is a suite of educational and development tools that aims to link shareholders with meaningful career opportunities while building a secure pool of talent for the next generation of Akima employees.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Akima full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

As a senior female executive reporting directly to our CEO, I feel I am well placed to correct an earlier review. The truth is very simple: Akima’s senior leadership team (both male and female) expect and exhibit the utmost professional and ethical standards. Under the CEO’s leadership, we’ve had two record setting years of earnings and revenue growth. During the same period, the CEO personally led fund-raising efforts that provided over $100,000 for an Alaskan Trust that gives Alaskan natives financial support to earn collegiate degrees. I have the utmost respect for the CEO and all of our employees, and would encourage anyone looking for a great career in a stable and growing company to apply for a position with Akima.

    Cons

Rapidly growing company with great stability. Sometimes not enough hours in the day to get everything done.

The Recruiter was extremely friendly, helpful and available to answer any questions, before and after the interview. The interview with my potential manager was more like an intelligent discussion rather than an interrogation.
