I worked at Alan Wong's Restaurants full-time (More than a year)
Looks good on resume, opportunity to make impressive contacts and network. Brand holds water, at least within the islands. Hourly staff are fun.
Poor compensation, insane hours due to insufficient staffing because of crazy turn over. A lot of lip service, no walking the talk, as they like to say.
I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Alan Wong's Restaurants (Honolulu, HI) in March 2014.
5 total steps: 1. Phone Interview with HR 2. Face to face Interview with GM 3. Face to face with Director of Operations. 4. Stage. Final meeting with Owner. They look to hire well rounded people and not necessarily people with all the skills and knowledge required because you can learn a lot when you work there. Great learning support. Helps if you have a genuine interest in the F & B business. Read books and magazines on the industry. Like I said they like well rounded employees in management.
