Our mission at Alert is to improve people’s live through innovation…, but we’re certainly not above improving our own lives with someone else’s innovation! One of our core values is The Golden Rule; treat others as you would like to be treated. Although our company-wide lunches are an invaluable part of our culture, we realized we were making tons of waste every day, and a lot of that was from seltzer water cans. We were generating about 15,000 empty cans per year, and that number grows with every new Alertian. Just as we don’t want others making unnecessary waste that ultimately impacts the environment, we are responsible for the waste we create.
That’s why we opted for Bevi, the smart water cooler. Gone are the 15,000 cans. We now fill our super cool Alert mugs using our own water lines to create customizable still and sparkling flavored water on demand. Mission and values are only as powerful as the actions and behaviors that uphold them. Reducing waste is just one way we’re doing that.
And.... the CEO and CDO are not exempt!
Our history traces back to a thought experiment in 1994, when inventor John Lert began thinking about how to use technology to create the "perfect" supermarket. He imagined a store in which machines pick customers' orders for center-store items, but customers still pick their own fresh goods, with no checkout line. That vision became the driving force for him professionally and led him into the field of materials-handling automation. In 2013, Lert founded Alert Corporation, later renamed Alert Innovation, Inc., and began working with co-inventor and business partner Bill Fosnight. Together, they invented Alphabot, secured start-up funding for Alert Innovation in 2016, and built the team that has now made their vision of Alphabot a reality.
The Golden Rule- Extraordinarily powerful in its simplicity and depth: “Treat others as you would want to be treated." It demands both empathy and fairness, qualities which are fundamental to harmonious human relationships and form the bedrock of ethical behavior.
The Power of Person- The contribution of every single person in a company is important, and the performance of the entire company can only be maximized when every person strives to achieve his/her full potential and to contribute to the best of his/her ability
The Power of Team- The Power of Person becomes amplified exponentially when a group of people working effectively as a team create “performance synergy”, whereby the capacity to perform as a team is much greater than the sum of the individual members’ capacities
The Power of Truth- We strive to see the world as it is, not as we want or imagine it to be, because only then can we make it better. This core value manifests itself through questioning, probing, testing, measuring, validating, verifying, proving, listening with an open mind, and making fact-based decisions. It also fosters transparency and honesty with others, as well as self-examination and self-honesty.
