Careers in Technology

Our growing technology team is a talented group of professionals doing “big consulting firm work” in-house. Here are a few of the team’s biggest recent accomplishments:

Consumer Loan Originating System: Alliant built a proprietary online consumer lending platform to streamline the loan application process and provide our members with a fast approval decision through this secure system. The CLOS initiative adopted an iterative, collaborative, and holistic program management approach and was built using a SCRUM agile framework. The system has received multiple accolades, including CUNA Technology Council’s 2018 Excellence Award.

Custom Developed Mobile Banking App: In partnership with the Digital Channels team, Alliant’s technology team built our state-of-the-art mobile banking app. Through in-house design, the team improved the overall mobile app experience and added features that addressed members' feedback and met their user experience needs. Since the app’s launch, the team has seen increased app downloads, plus more positive feedback with its App Store rating increasing to 4.8 in 2019 from 2.5 in 2017.

Online Banking Platform: The technology team also plays a critical role in the development and implementation of Alliant’s online banking platform. The team constantly works in conjunction with the Digital Channels team to add new features, test new solutions and deliver a secure and user-friendly design to our members.

Simply put, Alliant is more than just a bank. Our technology is driven by the human-centered design of the member experience. Our careers in Information Technology and Information Security will give you the chance to work on future-focused programs and applications that help fulfill our commitment to being a digital-first credit union.

Working along with Alliant Credit Union Foundation, Alliant is dedicated to making a difference in communities we do business in by promoting economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.

Alliant gives back to the community through multiple charitable programs and partnerships. Many of them have become a part of our culture and continue to shine through our continued commitment to improving the communities our teammates and members live and do business in.

Fantasy Flight

For over 25 years, Alliant has worked with United Airlines in organizing the most magical trip of the year, the Fantasy Flight to the North Pole. Our employees help transform O'Hare airport and gate areas into a winter wonderland to give children afflicted by illness, poverty and special needs the experience of a lifetime.

Community Outreach

Alliant's strong connection to supporting its communities continues throughout the year. Many teams take the time to support charitable organizations throughout the Chicagoland. Over the years, we have partnered with Goodwill, Greater Chicago Food Depository, Feed My Starving Children and other organizations, helping improve the quality of lives of those in need. In 2019, Alliant's Knitting & Crochet Club made over 50 scarves for the Foster Care to Success (FC2S) Red Scarves Project that takes place on Valentine’s Day. The program reaches the young adults in Foster Care to Success' college mentorship programs who often don't have a parent or grandparent to send them a goodies-filled care package at their dorms, so FC2S steps in. Each February, students receive an FC2S Red Scarf Project Valentine's care package that includes a handmade red scarf created and donated by generous crafters like the employees in Alliant's knit and crochet group.

Volunteer Day Benefit

Since one of the best ways to give back is in your own community, Alliant launched the volunteer day benefit, giving our employees a full day of paid time to volunteer with organizations and charities they care the most about. Every year, many of our employees take advantage of this benefit.

Annual Volleyball Tournament/Fundraising

The annual Employee Volleyball Tournament has been held since 2006. This event benefits a different charity each year. Thousands of dollars are raised annually, primarily through employee donations. Tournament beneficiaries have included: Hadley School for the Blind, Special Olympics of Illinois, Red Cross, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Cardiovascular Research Foundation, StacheStrong and more.

Banking on Our Future

Alliant is particularly proud to promote financial literacy through our partnership with Operation HOPE and Des Plaines School District 62. Through Operation HOPE's Banking on Our Future program, Alliant employee volunteers deliver personal financial management instruction to every student in the Chippewa and Algonquin Middle Schools as part of the Life Skills class curriculum.  Since the partnership's inception in 2005, over 5,000 students have received Banking on Our Future training.

I have been working at Alliant Credit Union full-time (More than a year)

Supportive and positive culture that emphasizes collaboration and recognition of coworkers and their accomplishments. Fun and engaging workplace. Benefits and compensation are industry best. Opportunities to contribute, learn, and develop in a variety of ways. Credit Union is growing and solid financially. Digital direction should be a win for members and open the door to technologies that will help take the organization to new heights.

Powerful and very conservative tech security group can make it difficult to do even the most routine work activities. Some uncertainty around location of new Chicagoland office (to be determined over the next six months or so).

    Advice to Management

Continue to be open and transparent, especially during times of change that can impact how and where people work. Communicate information directly, and as early as possible, to avoid speculation and/or potential mis-information from being spread. Continue to value and appreciate the work of all colleagues, with special attention given to the front line folks who strive to deliver a great experience to members day after day.

I applied online. I interviewed at Alliant Credit Union in September 2018.

I applied for the role online and got contacted after a week. The phone interview with the recruiter was good, she was open. Unlike other companies, salary discussions were not secretive/taboo and she was telling about the pay range. It took a while to schedule an in person interview due to conflicting schedules. In general, everybody I have met were very friendly people and even after the interview I got a phone call from the recruiter - Christina Mills stating that they were still evaluating all the candidates. Following week, I got a rejection e-mail. I liked the fact that they were following up and even with a negative decision, they were prompt to notify the candidate. They did not send an automated e-mail after weeks. I liked the way they treat to their candidates. I will re-apply to this company.
