As a commercially-driven business, we’re organized around our revenue-generating epicenter—our client services team (CST), who connects our clients to experts. Our structural teams support the continuous improvement, innovation, and functioning of our business. They include Legal and Client Protection, Finance and Administration, Marketing and Commercial Development, Recruiting, Professional Development, Operations, and Software Engineering.
Here’s what the career path for CST looks like.
As an Associate, you’ll serve demanding clients at private equity firms, hedge funds, top-tier consulting firms, and Fortune 500 companies. Your aim is to have clients rave about your excellent service and to view you as a partner, rather than service provider. The Associate position is for smart, savvy individuals who are excited by a hands-on, high-pressure role. You need to be responsive, professional, and focused on results.
After excelling as an Associate, the next step is the Manager role, which provides an opportunity very early in your career to develop into a versatile business leader. Our Managers ensure AlphaSights runs smoothly across geographies, time zones, and language barriers. They help recruit, train, and backstop Associates, and work on challenging projects. They also plan the months, quarters, and year ahead to ensure we can deliver for our clients.
Successful Managers may be promoted to Vice President at AlphaSights, or they may move into managerial or commercial roles at other successful companies, or attend leading business schools such as Harvard Business School, IESE or London Business School.
Outstanding Managers are promoted to Vice Presidents, who act autonomously to develop and execute their own strategies for a given geographic region or market. Their remit includes winning new clients, growing existing accounts, recruiting and leading new team members, and firm-wide initiatives.

Out of college, I couldn't have asked for a better place to start my career. In my opinion, the negative reviews should be taken with a grain of salt by onlookers. Usually it's a case of someone not being a good fit from a work ethic / mindset standpoint. Sure, AlphaSights can ask a lot of its employees, but it also gives you an equal amount if you seek it.
- Learn how to: develop client relationships, grow share of wallet, drive growth in books of business
- Learn how to continually hit quotas and budgets
- Opportunities to train others to help scale teams
- Opportunity to manage full P&L of your own book of business, the development of your Associates, and the fostering of relationships with clients
- Work hours can be long. But there's a difference between working a long time for the sake of it (and then being able to complain about it) or being efficient during the day and getting out at a normal hour. There are plenty of employees who work long hours, but make more because of it
Advice to Management
- Continue to keep the best interest of Associates and Managers at the forefront, and keep pushing for transparency and visibility in the midst of change
- With hiring very talented alumni, you'll be faced with a lot of people who have been successful their whole lives without having to grind and hustle. Try to screen these people out, and hire more and more for potential and mindset
I applied through college or university. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at AlphaSights (New York, NY) in March 2016.
I enjoyed the process- each interview felt more like they were really trying to get to know me rather than just test me. All steps are described on Glassdoor (Video Assessment, Skype, On-Site with case studies, VP, MD). The best way to prepare is to learn as much about the company and the role as possible, and know how the role aligns with your career goals. Don't apply for the role if you aren't passionate about it or AlphaSights, you'll just be wasting your time as you need to invest in this process. Everyone I spoke to was very nice and friendly, and HR got back to me quickly after every interview I had. Great company and great process overall.
